Red Panama wall lamp by Wim Rietveld for Gispen, 1950s

Wim Rietveld designed this red Panama Hat Wall Lamp, No. 4050, in 1956. It has become difficult to find a complete and original version. The red wrench can easily become lost, and the polyester cover, or diffuser, was not resistant to the heat of traditional light bulbs.

The lamp on offer still has both original elements, although the diffuser needs careful treatment.

The paint on the shade of the lamp is in good original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina.
