Product name: Teli pendant by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos, 1970s
Teli pendant made of synthetic fabric and metal parts created by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. It is produced by Flos in the 1970s.
Teli was designed to showcase the quality of the soft filtration of the light by the material Raflon, a new polyethylene fiber that was used for packaging. Kartell stopped the production of this pendant in 1967, after which Flos took over the production in 1973.
The pendant is constituted by two sheets of fabric, a white lacquered metal plate and in total five chromed metal rods. It is a deceptively simple construction. The longer of the two sheets of fabric is leaning on the metal plate and held down by the weight of two rods that are inserted in the edges of the fabric itself. The other (shorter) sheet also has rods at both ends (also inserted in the edges of the fabric), these can be attached to hooks on the metal plate. This sheet is held down by the fifth metal rod.
Teli is described in the Repertorio del Design Italiano 1950-2000 by Giuliana Gramigna on Page 68 (1959).
